Alcohol and its Role in the Evolution of Human Society: RSC

Alcohol and its Role in the Evolution of Human Society: RSC

Why we love it?

The title does not do the book justice; it is a grand tour of the world of alcohol, past and present. About 16 of the book to covers historical and anthropological aspects of alcohol, The other 500 pages go deeply into the fermentation process, fermentation organisms, the agricultural sources of sugar and starch, and other sources of sugar. All of this is interspersed with historical/archaeological material. Each chapter has over 100 references. The hundreds of grey scale photographs, drawings, and maps printed well, but on many of them the labels are too small.Readers without scientific backgrounds may struggle in some parts, but social scientists and historians, including historians of science, will nonetheless find a wealth of valuable insight and good sources. Some comments about this we saw on the web:

* /u/LucidDose on /r/BurningMan Sure you could say that but you could also say it helped develop the base for modern society (lots of stuff written about it like this). Seems evident by the downvotes that some people are deluded enough to think that alcohol is somehow different that other drugs. Is it because it is in liquid form?

Edit: been drinking
