* /u/edcRachel on /r/BurningMan I really liked this style (an RZ-style mask), it was small and compact, it fit well and did a good job. I liked that I could fold it up and fit it in my bag. You can buy them from China for dirt cheap (order now incase it doesn’t come), or off amazon prime for a bit more, there are like 100 places that make an identical one, I have no idea which brand I’ve bought. It had velcro, so I just kept mine in my bag, or around my neck, or around my bike handelbars. Only word of warning is that they’re on the small side, so if you’re a dude with a big face or a beard - it probably won’t fit.

In the past I had a full respirator, it was the only mask I brought first year. I hated it - I found it big, bulky, heavy, and not very comfortable. It looked cool, but when you’re wearing it for 6 hours in a dust storm…ugh. It was a pain in the ass to carry around because it didn’t fit in my bag and wasn’t comfortable around my neck and made my face sweaty. I ended up just having a scarf around my face half the time.

So now I bring one or two of those masks above, along with a couple bandanas and a couple scarves so I can switch back and forth when I feel like it.

Disclaimer - The dust didn’t bother me (even with asthma and allergies) so I felt those were sufficient, some people will only wear highly-rated particle masks, some people don’t use a mask at all. It’s up to you if you want something with higher ratings, but I found these totally fine.
