* /u/bahnder on /r/BurningMan We did our 2013 Burn in an Impreza hatchback (same size car), and while it was shit-packed full, we realized afterwards that of course we brought a bunch of stuff we didn’t really need (live & learn). Point being, it was fine.

Bikes, we put one of these http://www.amazon.com/Highland-1375100-SportWing-Mounted-Carrier/dp/B004002CS4 on the back, which did cover up the plate, and due to police concerns that year (and already worried about being profiled due to CO tags), our fix was to zip-tie the rear plate to the carrier (in the same spot it would normally be visible), and then rigged up some LED motorcycle plate lights http://www.amazon.com/Banggood-White-Motorcycle-License-Plate/dp/B008HAUQNG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1420746537&sr=8-2&keywords=motorcycle+plate+lights which bolted into the mounting holes of the plate, ran to a 8AA battery pack zip-tied to the hitch which provided the 12V it was looking for. While not technically legal, (plate supposedly has to be affixed to actual vehicle), we were given zero grief by any troopers along the way or at the gate.

Also, in addition to Craigslist, check out ShopGoodwill.org; if you’re within driving distance to one of their centers (you can search by store), you can get half-decent bikes for $10 all day.

All that said, we’re planning on renting a small uhaul trailer this year just for our own sanity.
