He dabs at the camera all over with the putty until the dust is all gone. Then he chucks the putty. I’m going to do this too since I feel like blowing air at my gear will just blow dust into my camera.

I did fall off my bike with it, and it went lens first, but the soft ground didnt cause any damage to it.
As far as storage or cleaning, do not bring your expensive camera bag, it will get covered inside and outside with dust. Leave it in your car, or somewhere were dust cannot get in. Do not change lenses on the playa. Stick with one, keep your camera in a backpack, or get a belt clip for it.
