We use a lot of these on Kalliope (an art car).

I’ll tell you that they use an absolute SHIT LOAD of CO2, so you’ll have to rent massive dewars to keep your system charged all week. I think the last time I asked, a CO2 cannon will get something like 30 seconds of firing out of a scuba-sized CO2 bottle.

I can’t remember how well they have worked on playa, but I know we’ve used them in Phoenix recently and they’ve worked really well (which is a similar climate).
