Some comments about this we saw on the web:

* /u/edcRachel on /r/BurningMan I use a couple reflective SOL Blankets over the rainfly of my tent, held on with some dollar store binder clips. I actually use this for every festival I go to and I’ve successfully slept through the day in even extremely hot places.

The SOL blankets are similar to mylar, but they’re more of a plastic so they don’t crinkle, they don’t tear, and they fold up nice - I’ve been using the same ones for years and only one is getting a little worn out. They’re only reflective on the one side too (the outside) so they’re better for shade. It keeps it nice and dark inside, there’s a noticible different when they’re on the tent.

This plus a fan has got me through two burns and tons of hot AF festivals (Oregon Eclipse, Envision in Costa Rica, Shambhala). I have been able to nap through the day. I mean - at 2pm it’s gonna get hot, but not hotter than any other tent, shaded or not at that point. Not as ideal as something suspended, but can’t beat something that folds up to nothing and costs $10 when flying. There are plenty of places to go sleep if it’s really too much.

If it’s super hot in the afternoon, I prefer just dragging a mattress into a lounge area somewhere and sleeping there. Being out in the open where there’s a breeze is better than being in any tent at that point. My best naps ever have been in the sun on the top of an RV, because it was nice and windy.

I’ve considered something like this but I’m not sure how much I’d trust it in heavy wind.
